here to take a second out of your day to talk about how Powerful tommy shepherd is. first, lets look at his brother. billy. billy kaplan who is supposedly going to become this all powerful demiurge & is going to rewrite the rules of magic & create realties & all one day. tommy was born of the same magic that billy was therefore, imo, he should be equal in power. obviously, tommy can’t rewrite reality in anyway but that doesn’t mean he’s any less of a threat.
in canon, his powers have barely been expanded on but i do believe they intended, originally, to make more of him. when they go to rescue him & eli is complaining about juvie, jonas specifically states to eli “you wanted someone powerful”. that means that tommy was most likely the highest person, power wise, that jonas could find on the list for the fail safe program. when we first see him he’s already doing something we really haven’t ever seen quicksilver do, unless i’m wrong, which is tommy has not only the ability to cause things to vibrate so hard their atomic structure destabilizes but he can apparently do it from a distance. quicksilver can destabilize atomic structure, sure, but it’s never been shown that he’s able to do it from a distance like tommy is. i feel like that’s overlooked a lot?? this means that tommy can cause things to vibrate at insane speeds even when he’s not touching them which i think that would also mean he can simply speed up things around him. hypothetically, tommy could use his power to make others speed up, not just himself. he could make things go faster; like he has a sort of fast forward button. also it should be pointed out that in a writing about the young avengers that tony made during civil war ( i found this in the back of the collected edition of ya & runaways civil war that i bought recnetly ) even tony calls tommy out as being the most dangerous member of the young avengers.
do i think tommy has realized all he can do? no. tommy uses very basics of his powers. he’s hardly experimented with them since breaking out of juvie & hasn’t realized what, exactly, he’s capable of. the speed, i think, is only the surface of it. if he’s as powerful in his power as billy is in his magic then i feel like his speed should be capable of many more things. even possibly time travel as it’s been proven, in canon, that that can be accomplished using speed. true enough, it was pietro jacked up on crystal mist who did it but tommy has something more than pietro’s speed so it could be something he’s capable of. it would also put a new dynamic on the twins. billy has ability over reality & probability. tommy would have ability over time & matter in time travel, speeding things up, & being able to destabilize structure to phase or explode.
